Atmospheric Ducting Interference on DAB, DAB+ Radio in Eastern Mediterranean

چکیده
A serious problem affecting the local radio industry in Cyprus is interference from Middle East. This especially acute on highway along coast during summer months because degrades sound quality vehicle receivers due to chirping noise, hissing, fading and distortion. During last decade issue was explored by monitoring field strength intensity of unwanted signals with respect atmospheric conditions that excacerbate interference. According research outcomes presented this paper, severe occurs “Tropospheric Ducting”, i.e., energy becomes trapped between two boundaries lower layers Earth’s atmosphere. Thereby, phenomenon acts as a waveguide favors waves propagate beyond horizon very strong where under certain exceeding expected free space theoretical value. Because commercial Band FM already oversaturated for years, it considered important expand explore impact new digital DAB, DAB+ radio, will soon be launched Cyprus, discussed below.

DIGITAL RADIO -- The Eureka 147 DAB System
Flexibility and choice -The DAB signal is essentially a highly flexible over-air 'data-pipe' that can broadcast a wide range of service types, from purely audio-based to multimedia. Typically, each multiplex can broadcast five or more high-quality audio services plus a number of extra services. The multiplex can be dynamically reconfigured to introduce additional services, temporary or permanen...
متن کاملNULL DETECTION IN DAB, T-DMB, AND DAB-IP SYSTEMS - Patent application
Detecting Null symbols in a video data frame comprises sending OFDM symbols through a sliding windowed correlation process having a correlation window length proportional to a cyclic prefix length and a delay equal to a FFT size of the symbols, wherein output peaks of the process occur where two similar portions of the symbols coincide; checking peaks in windows sized equal to a duration of a s...

The same program heard on DAB at 128 kbit/s and 192 kbit/s has been compared with a high quality FM stereo signal. The result from informal listening tests is that there are audible impairments in the stereo imaging of high-frequency instruments, and in particular hi-hats at 128 kbit/s. Some examples of songs where this effect can be heard are given. The effect can be explained by spectral anal...
متن کاملDRM+, a perfect complement to DAB/DAB+ in VHF band III
Technical investigations suggest that DRM+ is a suitable candidate for the transition from analogue FM to digital broadcasting in VHF band II (87.5 108.0 MHz) in Europe [2]. Unfortunately, there are mainly three major problems to solve: 1. VHF band II is historically defined for the use of analogue FM sound broadcasting, and, it is – as such – extensively used in Europe; 2. the lack of agreed c...
